Mystery Bird

I'm not very good with bird identification. I tried looking through my mother's copy of Birds of North America without luck. Of course I couldn't identify a Chickadee using the book either. This guy (gal?) has been around for a few weeks now. Can anyone identify it for me?

  1. It's a Common Flicker, one of the woodpecker family. We see them pecking at our big maple tree occasionally. Neat birds, aren't they?

  2. Thanks Kerri! I never would have thought woodpecker as when I see him he is always pecking at the lawn.
