Florida Souvenir

Like most people I like to pick up a little something while I'm vacation. This year was no exception. I got myself the softest, most comfortable robe I've ever owned at WallyWorld. Doesn't everyone shop there on vacation?

As long as we were there we took a stroll over to the garden section and they had a good variety of tropical plants. I settled on a little ponytail palm because they are supposed to grow slowly enough that I can have it as a houseplant. I've never bought a plant on vacation before.

I have never seen such a rootbound plant!

I untangled the roots and trimmed them. Some were over 4' long!

I hope I left enough exposed.

In it's new home.

  1. It looks good so far, Apple!
My souvenir was a piece of Hawaiian white ginger from a trip to Kona. They sell little bags with a chunk of the root right at the airport, so you know it's already inspected and can go on the plane.
I still have my ginger from 2002 - hope your palm does well, too.

  2. I have brought home plumeria starts from Hawaii but never got them to grow. Country Girl did get one to start but I don't know if she still has it or not.

  3. I wanted that plumeria to bloom so badly! I had it for almost two years but it never bloomed. I was so excited when it got leaves. I think it finally decided it had enough cold with this drafty old house and gave up.

  4. I didn't know that Wallyworld actually existed. I thought it was just a made up place from the movie National Lampoon's Vacation. Ya learn something new every day.

Enjoy the robe and the palm.

  5. CountryGirl, I brought home plumeria from Hawaii, too, but it just rotted. The plumeria that grew came from a local garden fest.

But the ginger took off like mad once it was potted!

I remember the Wally World in Vacation, [and Eddie Bracken as Wally] but thought you guys meant that Wal Mart is open late when you're on vacation, so even if you never go there at home, you hit the one near the motel. We either forget a basic item, or someone needs OTC meds. [last August it was sunburn remedies at 2 AM].
